July 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sony PS3 is among the most popular gaming consoles out there and it has sold in record numbers all over the world since its launch. The PS3 has also received numerous updates over the years and Sony has added several new features in the device as well. The latest fever that has taken the gaming industry is 3D. With LCD TVs becoming 3D enabled the game developers are also releasing games that offer stunning high definition visuals and sound. Sony has made PS3 3D enabled but there is a catch. The company has said that the console will play the latest 3D games in 720p HD format and not in 1080p Full HD. Therefore the 3D game scam be played at the resolution of 1280×720 on LCD TVs.
The reason Sony is doing this is it wants the 3D games to run without a glitch. A 3D Game with oodles of visual effects will strain the PS3’s CPU less if the resolution is kept at 720p. The frame rate can go up to 60 FPS which allows a smoother game play experience. If the resolution is scaled to 1080p the frame rates may drop. However, the PS3 has beefy hardware to render two 720p videos simultaneously.
Sony has also said that for the majority of users the difference between 720p and 1080p is hardly discernible. However, the claim has been countered by a number of people. The difference can be felt if the viewer watches the TV from close distance. The critics are also miffed that PS3 is cap[able of supporting full HD but Sony is imposing a restriction on it.
