July 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sony, the Japan based electronics giant is in the news one again but this time it is for recall of its well known and popular Vaio series of laptops. The laptops belonging to the Vaio C and F series that were sold at the first half of this year come under this recall as the company has reported.
The American Consumer Product Safety Commission issues a statement saying that the laptops can get so heated that they can burn the lap of the users. Sony on its part has said that 39 cases of laptop overheating cases have been reported so far. These incidents have taken place outside Japan. The laptops have got damaged from the excessive heat generated by certain body parts abut no user has been injured by them so far.
However, Sony does not want to name this a recall and has said that the defect can be rectified by means of a software patch. The recalled laptops can get excessively heated and as a result the casing and keyboards can get distorted. The majority of the recalled laptops have been sold in the USA as Sony has said. Overall, 535000 Vaio laptops may come under this recall. However, IT industry veterans are not exactly amazed at this recall. In laptops, a lot of components are crammed into small space and hence they are susceptible to overheating.
Laptop overheating has been a common issue with a number of manufacturers. Two years back IT giant HP recalled several thousands of laptops belonging to its pavilion series. In past also Sony recalled a number of its products.
