Washington DC, Jul 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There has been a mass product recall by Sony for its popular Vaio laptops. The Japanese electronics’ manufacturer and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on Wednesday.
The number of laptops said to have been affected is more than 500,000 and the notebooks with model numbers starting with VPCF11 and VPCWW2 are part of the recall. These laptops were sold between January and April 2010 and were priced between $800 and $1500.
The issue has affected 535,000 laptops worldwide, with more than half of that number sold on the US market.
The recalled products are said to “overheat” and could cause burns to its users even though no reported cases of injury were reported. Other consumers have reported cases of faulty keyboards and laptop covers.
Consumers have been advised to check their model numbers, to see if their laptops were purchased within the period and report to Sony about any problems, on their website. Model numbers are normally placed at the bottom of laptops and you may have to look closely to find it.
This is a recurrent problem for Sony Laptops. In the past too, there have been recalls due to the very issue.
