Sony Ceases Production of ‘Walkman’ Tape Players
October 25th, 2010 - 10:24 pm ICT by Angela Kaye Mason
Oct 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sony has recently announced the cessation of their Japanese production of the ‘Walkman’ portable personal tape players. After thirty years in production, the Walkman will be no more.
Sony shipped their latch order of Walkmans this past April, although Chinese manufacturers will still be producing a device with the name which will be distributed in the Middle East and Asia. The brand name will still be used for other digital media players and portable radios, just not the tape players which were made in Japan.
With the creation of so many new devices so quickly, such as the MP3 players, the iPod, and even cell phones store and play music now, the ‘Walkman’ simply became almost obsolete.
