Skype Outage Caused Confusion Among Users Worldwide

Dec 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Skype Internet phone users all over the world faced a service outage yesterday that left them confused and irritated. They found to their dismay that call making was not possible and several thousand user were annoyed to see the calls dropping midway. The network connection snag hit the service yesterday morning and it persisted for quite some time. This was the second time in 2010 that this popular and widely used online telephony service was affected by a major outage. It affected more users compared with one outage that lasted for two days in the year 2007.
Skype on its part tried contacting the users with the help of popular micro blogging site twitter. The service provider wrote in its Twitter account “Some of you may have problems signing in to Skype we’re investigating, and we’re sorry for the disruption to your conversations”. It also assured the millions of users saying that its team and engineers were busy finding out the core of the problem and that the service would resume to normalcy soon. Skype also said that it was aware of the network snag even before most of users faced the problem. It noticed some users dropping off the website. It was not natural and it started looking into the matter.
The Skype management also tried to explain the nature of the problem to the users though its official blog post. Skype does not function like regular IM or phone network but depends on a number of computers and phones. The service was gradually restored in most countries though some users complained they could not use it till yesterday night.
