Sex.com Named by Guinness as World’s Most Expensive Domain Name
February 23rd, 2011 - 3:03 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonFeb 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’, Sex.com has become the “most expensive internet address domain name” in the world. The domain name sold at an auction back in November of 2010 for the whopping sum on thirteen million dollars, which according to ‘TechCrunch’ is the priciest on the planet.
Escom was the former owner of Sex.com, and a deal was negotiated via Sedo.com which is a German based marketplace for domain names. The buyer? Clover Holdings. Sedo sales director Kathy Nielsen shared with ‘TechRadar’ that, “We’re honored that Sedo was trusted with such a high-value and high-profile sale, and we’re ecstatic that it is now being recognized by Guinness World Records as a record-breaking deal.”
Sedo has also brokered such big ticket sales with such names as Vodka.com and Pizza.com.
