Samsung Releases Official Specs for Galaxy Tab

samsung galaxy Sep 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Although the news has been out for some time now that Samsung was working on a tablet that would rival the iPad, the official announcement from the company including specs of the Galaxy Tab Android tablet did not come until a few days ago.

Although the official price of the tablet has not yet been released, it is due to be ready for sale in the European markets sometime this month, and in the United States and Asia by the end of 2010. The size and specs if the device are said to place it somewhere in the middle between the Dell Streak, which has similarities to an phone, and the size of the Apple iPad.

The Galaxy Tab comes with a 7 inch capacitive touch screen which has a 1,024X600 WSVGA resolution. Along with it comes Android 2.2 and the Google apps market. It also has Flash 10.1, and a choice of 16 GB or 32 GB of memory. GPS, integrated sensors, and an ARM Cortex A8 1 GHz applications processor with a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processor also comes with the tab.

For pictures and videos, the Galaxy Tab features a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto-focus, and an LED flash. It will also record video up to 720X480. A video chat-friendly camera also comes along with the package which uses a 1.3 megapixel VGA resolution. The battery is expected t have a life of seven hours of video playback.

It has also been announced that the tab has become DivX Certified and will be able to play DivX High Definition “HD” video, making it the world’s first DivX Certified Android powered tablet device. It will also be able to connect to other DivX devices, like HDTVs.

The Tab is also WiFI compatible and cell compatible up to 3G. Although the specific carrier has not yet been announced, there are speculations that Verizon, the top Android marketer will carry the Tab.
