robert-louis-stevenson-doodleNov 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) California based Internet search and services provider Google Inc has come up with a new doodle on its homepage, adhering to its tradition of changing its logo on special days and events. The newest Google doodle is dedicated to the memory of Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson the celebrated Scottish novelist. The doodle makes a reference to the famous novel Treasure Island written by the novelist. There is a reason why Google has made a new doodle representing the Scottish novelist. Today is his 160th birthday.

Google usually changes its well known logo to static or animated images on special days of the year or on the birthday or death anniversaries of eminent celebrities and personalities. Sometimes the company also changes the doodle to pay homage to memorable technology related events. The PacMan doodle can be cited in this instance. However, the doodles are not displayed for long. In most of the cases the doodles stay on the Google homepage for a day or so. The Google users usually love the doodles and they offer a change from the plain white interface of the search giant once in a blue moon! The new doodle shows the image of a pirate, a pirate ship, compass, hidden treasure and jewels and sea in it, all the elements of his famous novel.

Robert Louis Stevenson is remembered for his tales of adventure and pirates. Till date Treasure Island remains his most popular work. The novel was published in the year 1883. His other popular works include the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Kidnapped.
