Aug 26, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Overheating of Garmin Ltd’s Nuvi GPS batteries that might cause fire hazard has led the company to recall around 1.3 million of its Nuvi GPS units from the market all over the world. On Wednesday, the company announced the recall, and added that although as of yet it has not received any complaints about any property loss or injury caused by the battery overheating, it is recalling the units from the market as they bear a potential fire hazard threat. The company however has maintained that the present GPS device recall will in no way affect the brand name of the company which holds the number one position among the PND makers all over United States.
In its statement on Wednesday, Garmin Ltd. has maintained that it is a third-party supplier who is to be blamed for the supply of the faulty GPS devices. Garmin Ltd. mentioned that the recall is being implemented on units that were supplied within a definite date code range and for particular printed circuit board design. The company as of yet has identified fewer than 10 cases of overheating and none of them have led to any kind of damage. However, the company does not want to take any kind of risk and therefore is proceeding with the recall.
As per reports, the third-party supplier that had supplied the faulty batteries has agreed to share the cost of replacing the batteries. Garmin Ltd. has asked owners of the recalled GPS units to visit a Garmin-authorized facility to get the unit replaced. He has urged owner not to try in any way to service the battery or take it out of the device by their own.
