RIP ‘Facebook plant’

Sep 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Over 5,000 Facebook fans have killed a plant in Australia called “Meet Eater” with love, literally.
Facebook users throughout the world who became fans of the plant got the plant watered anytime they shared a wall post. And since the project was launched, the plant has died twice because of over watering.
The plant has been replaced with a water tolerant one that can withstand over-watering.
The plant is part of a project by the Queensland State Library to determine emotions of Facebook users. The fans showed enough love to have the plant over-watered on two previous times. The researchers say some fans grew so fond with the plant that they spent weeks in conversation with the plant while others just wrote “hello” or some other nice words on the plant’s wall from time to time. That became love too much for the plant because it got watered too much resulting in the death of the plant.
“We found that it’s been over-loved, it’s actually died two times from having too much stimulation, which is an interesting outcome for us. There have been some people who are very proactive with the plant’s engagement who maintain conversations with the plant over some weeks, but there are a very large number of people who just come on there, say hello and then do nothing more, they don’t really have an interest in continuing,” according to Bakshim Isai of the Queensland University.
