Rajeev Motwani found dead in pool

Rajeev Motwani Rajeev Motani passed away on Friday, June 5. His body was found floating in the swimming pool, in the backyard of his house in Atherton. Apparently, the reason of the death is drowning as has been stated by Stanford University. Friends of the professor has confirmed that the 47 year old did not know how to swim.

Motwani has left behind his wife, Asha Jadeja and two daughters. Asha Jadeja currently runs the Dot Edu Ventures. The San Jose Mercury News reported earlier that the Atherton police are awaiting the autopsy result of the accidental drowning to speak further on it.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday by the Sillicon Valley ring of TIE. A visitation event at their home will be held on Monday, June 8, between 5 p.m to 8 p.m. The guests have been requested by the Motwani family to make contribution in forms of mail checks instead of flowers and gifts. The mail checks are to be addressed in the favor of “Rajeev Motwani Foundation” c/o Ash Chopra, Merill Lynch, 101 California Street, Suite 2100, San Francisco, CA 94111.

Motwani was very passionate about teaching and had taught at the Stanford University till the last quarter. His contributions to the field of technologies is widely lauded in the Silicon Valley. He had lent his investment advice to Google co-founder Sergey Brin in the cyber giant’s early days.

Brin has wrote in his blog about Motwani saying, “..Yet his legacy and personality lives on in the students, projects, and companies he has touched. Today, whenever you use a piece of technology, there is a good chance a little bit of Rajeev Motwani is behind it.”
