sony-ps3-gaming-consoleJAN 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sony is determined to put a stop to the activities of those hackers who try to exploit the vulnerabilities in its popular PS3 gaming console. The Japanese giant which owns a large share of the console gaming segment is in no mood to let the pirates eat into its revenue each year. The company has recently unveiled a new firmware update aka version 3.56 to bolster the security of its flagship gaming console. The security patch for PS3 was unveiled after reports surfacing late last year regarding some vulnerabilities allowing hackers to play pirated games on the device. The update for blocking the pirates is now available on the web.

In its official blog Sony acknowledged rolling out the security patch and Sony Entertainment America’s VP of network operations, did not reveal the details of the update and what flaws are going to be fixed by it. This is a compulsory update for the PS3 users though. Before playing online using the gaming console the users will have to install this patch on their devices or else access to the Sony PlayStation Network will be denied.

The users have already started downloading and installing the update on their systems all over the world. However, some of the users have grudged the fact that it is taking long to download the patch and the updating process is also sluggish. On its blog Sony says “This is a minor update that adds a security patch.” The same statement was issued when the patch 3.55 was released earlier. The Industry report is that Sony is mulling about introducing serial keys in near future to thwart piracy.
