Nov.24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Search engine Google is faced with a new difficulty as the image of First Lady Michelle Obama, which is considered to be extremely objectionable, is again appearing at the top of the image search engine. However, with the aim of providing an explanation to the users, Google is utilizing its own ad space. The image in question is the picture of Michelle Obama morphed into a chimpanzee.
The image of the first lady which emerged some time ago had created quite a controversy as it was described as racist as well as highly offensive. As a result, Google had earlier removed the picture emphasizing that the online portal which was showcasing the picture violated certain guidelines and removal policies of the search engine. However, the offensive picture remained available on other websites which made it an imperative need for the search engine to come up with an explanation. In order to do so, Google is using the ad spaces to apologize to its users who have been offended by the search results. At the same time, the company also explains to the users its policies on offensive content and adds that in certain occasions search engines can come up with disturbing results. However, the company in no way endorses any of the results that might surface.
Moreover, the company has also emphasized that a search engine highlights only the content that is available on the internet with respect to a particular query and a website ranks in the Google results depending on mainly computer algorithms. Meanwhile, Search Engine Round Table has added that the company offers a similar explanation when the term ‘Jew’ is searched in its website.
