Nintendo files trademark for the phrase “It’s On Like Donkey Kong”
November 11th, 2010 - 8:57 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Nov 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Nintendo has filed for a trademark for the phrase “Nintendo It’s On Like Donkey Kong” from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The company is seeking the enforcement agency to make the phrase the sole ownership of the company. The company will launch its Donkey Kong Country Returns on Nov. 21.
The company explained that the application follows the use of the phrase in several quarters. The phrase has been used by musicians, in films, on television and several other places. The company now wants a monopoly over the phrase. A debate has however started on the origination of the phrase. What is however clear is that Nintendo launched the first original Donkey Kong in 1981.
In the application, Nintendo contended that the phrase was coined in the early 1990s and wants the office to ensure that the right of the phrase is offered to them. If that happens, then it means that the use of the phrase will be restricted. The phrase has been used for several years. It is however unclear why Nintendo had to wait until now to ensure make the application. Nintendo has followed the original Donkey Kong game with several other titles.
