Nintendo Celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros.

Sep 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Nintendo released a game in on September 13, 1985 which was based on a strange idea for a storyline, featuring an Italian plumber who has special powers, and must fight against mushrooms, turtles, and evil creatures to save a princess from the “bad man”. That “strange” idea has made over forty million dollars in sales and is one of the best selling games of all times, and is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary today.

Super Mario was created by Shigeru Miyamoto, and was originally known as “Jumpman”. The US office of Nintendo was trying to come up with a better name, and was interrupted by their landlord, Mario Segale, whom they decided to name the character after. Mario was originally a carpenter and not a plumber.

Nintendo’s composer, Koji Kondo created the famous soundtrack for Super Mario Bros. The main musical theme, known as “Ground Theme” is now one of the most recognized pieces of game music which has ever been recorded. It was on the Billboard ringtone charts for 125 weeks.

The Super Mario series is in the Guinness Book of World records as the most successful gaming franchise of all time. One A Q survey which was conducted in the nineties showed that Mario was more recognized by American children than Mickey Mouse.
