June 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Facebook is in for yet another security fiasco! A clickjacking worm has infected the computer of thousands of users of Facebook and it is spreading malware into the systems of those users.
The security experts at leading antivirus firm Sophos conformed the infection and said that the worm cleverly tricked the users into falling in its trap by using Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams.
Using popular celebrities to lure the users and infecting malware is nothing new. The creators of such codes are now increasingly targeting average users of the popular social networking sites.
A link was put in, that claimed to take the user to a site with nude images of the singer. A lot of people clicked on the link which caused the worm to spread and infect their systems.
The Sophos researchers are of the opinion that the hackers succeeded in spreading the worm as they managed to hide a button which infects the users PCs the moment they click anywhere in the site they are taken to. A senior technology consultant at Sophos said that such infections spread really fast. The hackers lure the unsuspecting users by offering link to porn pages and similar stuff online.
Facebook recently made modifications to the user policy but these changes are not enough for keeping this kind of attacks at bay. The security experts are of the opinion that Facebook management needs to update its security policy before more spammers and hackers find loopholes to cause inconvenience to its users.
Not all users of Facebook are aware about the implications of the security loopholes.
