Netflix Ties Up With Nintendo

Jan 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Nintendo of America and the biggest online movie rental service Netflix have made a deal according to which the Wii console owners would be able to stream Netflix TV programs and movies. However, these Wii owners need own the Wii gaming console as well. They will gain the facility of streaming numerous movies using high speed internet connection to TV sets directly. Owing to this deal, Nintendo will be able to reach out to a larger user base and counter the competition from its rivals Sony and Microsoft. They offer Netflix service by means of their respective gaming consoles.
Netflix also stands to gain from this partnership. Wii continues to be the best selling gaming console and the rivals like Xbox 360 or Sony PS3 cannot match up to its popularity and sales volume. The plans will start from a rental of $8.99 a month for high speed internet. The Wii users willing to watch Netflix programs and movies on their existing consoles will have to use Netflix instant-streaming disc. The company says it will be provided without additional charge to the users.
Apart from the movies, the users will be allowed to download games. As of now, Netflix has over 11 million subscribers and this tie up may increase its user base to a large extent. It will take some time for the service to be launched as the company has revealed. Nintendo will be able to maintain its lead over its rivals and its market share will keep growing.
