MySpace To Take Actions Against Application Developers Sharing Data About Users

mySan Francisco, Oct 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) An investigation that was carried out by a reputed news source has found that the social-networking site MySpace with some of its popular applications might be divulging data to few advertising companies that could lead to the identification of the users. It has been reported that that social-networking site and some of its popular third-party applications give away a distinct ID number that can be utilized to find the profile pages which would hold information as name, gender, pictures and many other characteristics of any user.

While reacting to the findings of the probe, a spokesperson of MySpace has revealed to the media that just by knowing the public user ID, one cannot access the private user data. However, the spokesperson accepted that as part of the advertising serving process, the non-personally identifiable details of the users are shared with the advertising companies. At the same time, it has been emphasized that any user data cannot be shared by the third-party developers as per the terms of the service that prohibit it.

On Saturday, a company spokesperson confirmed that certain third party app developers might have violated the terms of the service while it has been stressed by the company that proper steps would to taken against those developers. MySpace maintains it stand that the information about the users are gathered for metrics and analytics reasons and the only information that is divulged by the social-networking site are the information that are made public by the user in their personal profile.
