New York, Oct 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) MySpace has revealed that some of its third party apps are violating the website’s privacy terms by sharing personal information of users with companies.
When a user clicks on an advert on the website, then the user’s ID is sent to the third party vendor.
Though the ID’s that are sent are not the real names of the users, it is just the type of information that the vendors need. Armed with the ID, the vendor can search the personal details of the user including name, address and other vital information.
These information are then forwarded to the companies to target the users involved.
Facebook had a similar problem with privacy but the company managed to solve it. Facebook seriously warned its third party developers about sharing information of Facebook users. In May, the Wall Street Journal revealed that MySpace was sharing the information of its users with companies and that really affected the social networking site that is living under the shadow of Facebook for a long time.
MySpace has already started being hard on some third party applications. The website suspended the application “Tag Me” when it was realized that the application was sending the information of its users to companies.
