New York, Oct 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) After a lot of speculation, Verizon Wireless today officially unveiled the Droid, a Smartphone that is built by Motorola and powered by Google’s Android 2.0 operating system.
In a call with reporters, John Stratton, Verizon’s chief marketing officer, said that the price of the Droid will come in at $199, with a two-year contract and a mail-in rebate. The Droid phones will hit shelves on November 6.

One of the Droids might be manufactured by HTC, while the second, code-named Calgary, would pair the Android operating system with BLUR capability. In the press conference, Stratton appeared to confirm those rumors. “The partnership between Verizon and Google will be a multiyear partnership … under the Droid franchise,” he said.
According to reports at, Brighthand.com, the Droid manufactured by HTC, “will allegedly have an 3.2-inch HVGA screen, Wi-Fi, 5-MPx camera, and a GPS receiver, but no hardware keyboard. This model has the code-name HTC Desire, and it was under that designation that it received FCC approval late last month. It will run Google’s Android OS, but the standard user interface will be replaced with HTC Sense.”
