Microsoft to announce a Bing deal with Twitter & Facebook

October 22nd, 2009 - 12:00 am ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt Tell a Friend -

bing search engine Redmond, Oct 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Microsoft is all set to announce the integration of real time status updates from both Twitter and Facebook into Bing at the Web 2.0 Summit today. The announcement is supposed to be made by Qi Lu, President of Microsoft’s Online Services Group, later this morning at the Web 2.0 Summit today.

This is not a combined deal with Twitter and Facebook. Rather it’s a separate nonexclusive deals today with both Facebook and Twitter to integrate their real-time feed of status updates into the Bing search service.

This is going to be quite a big number crunching deal as Twitter got their 5th billion tweet yesterday and Facebook says that it has 40 million updates a day on average. This deal is coming as a surprise because according to unconfirmed sources, Twitter has been talking to Google about a similar arrangement, and according to sources, so has Facebook.

According to sources, not all Facebook updates will be included in this real-time feed to be searched by Bing. But rather only those its users who choose to make their status public, and in turn make them available to the wider public. Facebook will in turn provide its users with a numbers of tools to make their statuses public.

It is being speculated whether or not, Bing is paying for this deal with Twitter and Facebook or not.
