New Delhi, Nov 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Indian subsidiary of Microsoft(NASDAQ:MSFT) is getting a good early and healthy response to Windows 7, which is its recently launched operating system, its chairman said on Monday.
“Over the next 12 months we hope to have at least half of the new computers operating on Windows 7,” Microsoft India Chairman Ravi Venkatesan told news agency on the sidelines of the India Economic Summit here.
The new Microsoft operating system called Windows 7 was launched late last month. However, until Friday due to some tussle and problems with the Customs, it was still not available in India. “Customs have some issues. But it has been resolved. The product will be made available in India from next week,” he added.
The Indian unit, which has 5,300 people on its rolls, has “no significant plans of hiring” this year, Ravi Venkatesan told reporters at the World Economic Forum.
“India and China contributed a very small portion of Microsoft’s global revenues, but we are seeing good double-digit growth” he said.
