Largest video game controller unveiled in London
January 19th, 2012 - 9:59 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Jan 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The largest video game joystick has been unveiled in London. The 265-pound pad was developed by students from Dutch’s Delft University of Technology.
The pad was on display during the Guinness World Records 2012 Gamer’s Edition. It is a giant replica of Nintendo’s NES console pad. Three engineering students including Britain’s Ben Allen developed the pad. During a chat with the Daily Mail, he revealed that it took them six months to complete the work on the console. The cost of constructing the pad was £4,000.
Allen told the newspaper that, “This is really a labour of love. We’re passionate about gaming and wanted to honour its most iconic device; the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) joypad. We put our heads together in the pub and decided to create this absurdly large working version. It’s such a rush to know we’ve made history and are being included in the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition.”
At least two gamers will have to stand on the 12ft x 5ft 3in in x 1ft 8in pad to control it. To push the button, they will literally have to jump on the button.
The Guinness World Records 2012 Gamer’s Edition is currently ongoing in Liverpool St Station, London.
