iFAIL: Apple iPhone Alarm Glitch Causes Scores to be Late
November 2nd, 2010 - 2:12 am ICT by Angela Kaye Mason
Nov 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Scores of people were an hour late for work today after a suspected Apple iPhone alarm clock bug caused their iPhone alarms to go off an hour later than they were set for.
As Europe’s time switched back, the time on the iPhone automatically updated just as it was programmed to do, but the alarm did not, which cause hundreds of Europeans to wake up an hour later than they were supposed to.
The bug was similar to the one which caused the same problem last month in Australia and New Zealand when their clocks switched from Daylight Savings Time. iPhone users in the United States should beware next week, as the time changes there, since the glitch could pop up again as the clocks are set to mark the beginning of winter.
Although Apple has not commented on the issue, many frustrated Europeans went to Twitter to voice their opinions. Saghul Tweeted, “iPhone alarm bug made me wake up late.” Conner Mulhern typed, “Alarm issues this morning with an iOS 4.1 iPhone. It went off exactly an hour late. Glad it may not have been just me.”
The alarm bug can be beaten by deleting all alarms and resetting them. Simply editing will not work.
