Jan 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Google always manages to stay in the spotlight and sometimes it could be for the wrong reasons. The media and web is abuzz with the news that the Internet search giant may possibly put an end to its operations in China. It is owing to a serious hacking attempt as the official Google blog has revealed. It has been found that the attack was of a severe type though the hackers behind it could not achieve their target fully. However, Google has alleged that it lost intellectual property owing to the hacking attempt. The company was already aghast with the censorship policy implemented by the government of China.
According to the assumptions of Google, the hackers targeted the Gmail accounts of some human rights activists in China. Google had to face hardships in getting across the Chinese market. Besides, the company which enjoys a worldwide popularity with the web users has faced stiff competition from Chinese local search engines. It has said that after holding task with the Chinese Government it will take a final decision on continuing its operations in China. The company spokespersons have also said that if the government continues to restrict its freedom, Google will cease its operation totally in China.
It is too early to estimate how its exodus from Chinese market will impact Google’s online revenue. In the meantime, the US government has taken note of Google’s move. It has contacted the government of China and asked for clarifications on the alleged hacking attempt. Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State has taken the initiative in this regard.
