Google’s New York City Office Gets Bedbugs

September 6, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Bedbugs have been hogging the limelight lately both on land as well as the cyber space. With incidences of bedbug infestations growing at an alarming rate in the city of New York along with the other metropolises of America, it is not surprising that they would be found in some of the world famous offices housed in the area.

The Internet giant Google is the latest in the line to join the long list of sufferers with the little bugs being uncovered at their 9th Avenue office of the Manhattan Area. The news, ‘Google gets bedbugs’ has spread far and wide meanwhile when one of its marketing employees posted a brief sentence on Twitter. His message stated that he was not immune to the bedbug menace which had been found at work.

The Wall Street Journal commented on the fact that Google’s offices were not confined to computers and work desks only. On the contrary, they were well equipped with cafeterias providing gourmet food and snacks bar with even Lego sets available for the employees on demand.

Google has apparently removed the tweet together with the Twitter account and has stated that the bedbugs would be the next to go.

The spokeswoman for Google elaborated on the fact saying that a small area had been affected by the bugs and they hope to take steps in treating the area. The employees have been informed likewise she added.

The governor of New York has recently signed a legislation into a law which now requires all landlords to declare a history of bedbug infestations prior to letting out of their property. Another law that has gone in effect requires all schools located in the New York City to inform the families of bedbug infestation instances within the school premises.

The media at gawker in the meantime has quipped about the incidence saying that Google was infected and while there was no known incidences of the bedbug spreading via the Internet let alone a search engine, one could not be too careful.
