google china Mountain View, Mar 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) After a lot of hue and cry over censorship issues and cyber attacks, Google has finally decided to shut its shop in China. The Google blog confirmed the news, in an update. They also added that the Chinese Google site i.e. Google.cn is being redirected to www.google.com.hk They also added that their Hong Kong users would still be able to avail all the Google pages uncensored. Hong Kong users were also warned that the site might be a bit slow for them, due to the increased load on the servers.

Just last week Google had revealed that it was still in talks with the government of China, over the censorship issues. Even though the talks were in place, but it was already been speculated that soon Google would shut shop, as the standoff between the government of China and Google had breached the 2 months mark.

It may be recalled that in late January 2010, China had denied any sort of involvement in the Google cyber attacks. It also said that Internet censorship was necessary. Chinese authorities had made these comments in response to the White House statements. Google had been quite upset over the Chinese cyber attacks, and has also threatened that it would withdraw all its services in China. Earlier Google had somewhat agreed to the Chinese government censor board, but after the cyber attacks, it had said that it is no longer going to honor the wishes of the Chinese government censors.
