Beijing, Mar 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Google revealed on Monday that it was still in talks with the government of China, over the censorship issues. Even though Google said that the talks continue, yet speculations were rife that Google is all set to shut shop in China. Already the standoff between the government of China and Google has breached the 2 months mark. Google had earlier said that they were affected as they were hit by hacking from China.
Google’s Eric Schmidt said that they would soon announce the result of these discussions with the Chinese authorities, as they want to offer the uncensored version of the search engine to the Chinese nationals, whereas the Chinese authorities want to curb their freedom and make them tow the line of censorship.
It may be recalled that in late January 2010, China had denied any sort of involvement in the Google cyberattacks. It also said that Internet censorship was necessary. Chinese authorities had made these comments in response to the White House statements. Google had been quite upset over the Chinese cyberattacks, and has also threatened that it would withdraw all its services in China. Earlier Google had somewhat agreed to the Chinese government censor board, but after the cyberattacks, it had said that it is no longer going to honor the wishes of the Chinese government censors.
