For about 2 hours, anxious internet users were deprived of their access to their emails, now online shoppers will have to wait for a while since there is an unexplained outage at www.dell.com
According to Techcrunch Dell Computers website has been offline since 5 PM EST. Users visiting the website are greeted by : “Service Unavailable. HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.”, it does imply something went terribly wrong.
According to World Wide Web Consortium, HTTP 503 error is defined as:-
The server is currently unable to handle the request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. The implication is that this is a temporary condition which will be alleviated after some delay. If known, the length of the delay MAY be indicated in a Retry-After header. If no Retry-After is given, the client SHOULD handle the response as it would for a 500 response.
Dell, Inc. is a multinational technology corporation that develops, manufactures, sells, and supports personal computers and other computer-related products. Based in Round Rock, Texas, Dell employs more than 76,500 people worldwide as of 2009.
Edit : As on about 5:45 PM (EST), www.dell.com came back online. It was down for an estimated 40 to 45 mins

The Dell Web site, dell.com, is up and running after being down only briefly.

It was more than “briefly. Started with their product detail pages, then spread to the main page. I have screenshots to prove it. :)
