Facebook’s releases list of most popular ’shared’ news items

New York, Nov 30 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Facebook has released the list of the top 40 most “shared” news in the past year. The popular social networking site published the list on Wednesday. The list revealed that users had interest in varied stories.

On top of the list is the story about the satellite images published in the wake of the Japanese tsunami by The New York Times. The images were compared to pictures which were taken before the tsunami. Facebook said the story was “shared” over 600,000 times.

Shared nearly 590,000 times on Facebook was CNN’s article on the topic “What teachers really want to tell parents.” The story discuses guardians trusting the opinion of teachers on their wards.

All the 40 top stories were carried by US news outlets with Yahoo having 12 of their stories on the list. CNN had 10 stories in the list with The New York Times and The Huffington Post having seven stories each. Washington Post had three stories in the list.

Facebook wrote that, “We recently looked at the most shared articles in the US on Facebook over the past year. The stories range from cute to thought provoking and represent the type of news people have been sharing and discovering with friends in 2011.”
