Dec 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Top social networking service Facebook is going to recruit 100 employees for its headquarters in Dublin. Facebook is going to invest in Ireland despite the dire state of the country’s economy. The lower Corporate tax rate of Ireland has also attracted other tech giants like Hewlett Packard, Google, Microsoft and Intel. In spite of facing pressure from other countries including Germany, Ireland has not hiked its corporation tax from the prevailing rate of 12.5%. Facebook’s director of on line operations admitted the pressure though he declined to comment directly. However, the Facebook officials said that Facebook’s executive team has got inspired by the Irish government’s collaborative nature and focus on business from the beginning.
They also said that the Irish government officials can be approached for various type of problems which is not the case with other countries. Of the 200 employees of Facebook in Dublin the majority are in accounts and advertising. The decision of Facebook to recruit 100 more employees was welcomed by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce. It said that it will boost the economic growth of Dublin. Dublin Chamber chief executive Gina Quin said “We are delighted with Facebook’s decision to expand their base in Dublin and view it is a sign of their commitment to Ireland”.
It was in 2008 that Facebook set up a center in Dublin after some other major technology companies did the same. It started with 70 employees which later grew to 200. Facebook continues to witness its user base growing by leaps and bounds. It is also rolling out a number of new features for its users.
