Facebook to let advertisers republish user’s posts
January 27th, 2011 - 8:25 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Jan 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Facebook users will now be able to see commercials that their friends like.
The website has announced that as part of the “Sponsored Story”, users will see on their right page the adverts that their friends like. The move is to help advertisers on the website the chance to promote their products through word-of-mouth. Users cannot disable the feature for now.
This move already has some critics. Some privacy organizations believe that Facebook is taking advantage of its numerous users to make money without their consent. The executive director of Electronic Privacy Information Center, Marc Rotenberg has told all Facebook users that as much as possible, they should object the move by Facebook.
While Facebook is just beginning such a feature, Twitter has used it as a means of advertisement promotion for sometime. As the popularity of this style of advertisements rise, many websites will start implementing the same.
Facebook remains one of the most popular websites in the world. With more than 600 million users it is just a matter of common sense that the executives of the website would want to mint more money.
