San Francisco, May 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Facebook’s privacy rules are bothering millions of people along with some bureaucrats who are now opposing the website’s privacy polices fearing that it makes many of the private information of the user public. After four U.S. senators lodged complaints about the privacy policy of Facebook, a dozen more groups dealing with privacy and consumer protection laws have waged war against the website. The groups are protesting about the privacy policies which are being alleged to be “unfair and deceptive”.
On Thursday, the Electronic Privacy Information Center told media sources that it was joining the group of other 14 such organizations which are protesting the duplicity of the Facebook. The group has also written a letter of complaint to the U.S. Congress in which it has said that the Facebook manipulates the privacy policies of the website and also the privacy setting options of the users in such a way that the information which are put by the users for some particular groups become available to a lot more people on the web. The information according to them are used for commercial purpose. It alleges that the company has repeated this act several times in the past and that it has added to the frustrations of the users.
Anxiety has hit a large number of people after Facebook introduced the new privacy settings on Apr 21. The settings allow other partner websites to share Facebook data. The new settings on one hand will no doubt increase the presence of the Website on the internet but the other hand is likely to make the users vulnerable to a third party which would have access to the account details.
