polite-burglar1 October 27, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): who in their right mind will rob a virtual home in a Facebook game? Right now the Italian National Post Office is pondering on this line of thought. A woman in Sicily recently found out that a hacker has cracked her Email password and used it to access her Facebook account. The online robber did not leave empty handed, he/she stripped Paolo Letizia’ online house off all the goodies that she had arranged after a lot of effort.

It has been reported that the Facebook burglar made off with $140 worth of furnishings, clothes, gifts and accessories that she had accumulated over a long period of time. The Facebook games burglar slept past quietly after stealing all the goodies from Paola Letizia’s Facebook account. Paolo is a long time enthusiast of the popular Facebook game called “Pet Society”. Everything was gone from the Pet home but the only thing left was the pet “Blue cat”.

Authorities believe that the hacker got access to Letizia’s password system because she used the same password as the name of her online pet. The hacker easily got into her Facebook account retrieved all the goodies that the Palermo resident had collected over the years and went his way.

What kind of a thief will take online items for loot? It seems that the Italian police have no intention of pursuing this case. So they have delegated the case to the National Post Office, which is an insignificant crime fighting outfit. If this virtual burglar gets caught, he/she might have to spend a lot of time behind the bars.
