zuckerbergDec 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has faced a lot of flak for his alleged manipulative ways using which he became a billionaire and the owner of world’s most popular social networking site. The film made on Facebook also made buzz in the industry about those claims. However, his recent activities prove that he has a philanthropic side to his character after all. The young CEO of Facebook is among the 17 billionaires who have joined the Giving Pledge, a joint endeavor from Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. The project is meant for encouraging wealthy personalities of the world “to commit to giving the majority of their wealth to the philanthropic causes and charitable organizations of their choice either during their lifetime or after their death”. This has been mentioned in the web site of the organization.

The Facebook CEO said that many wealthy people donate for charitable causes in their old age. He added that he does not want to wait till he grows old because a lot needs to be done for the deprived lot. Other wealthy individuals who want to join The Giving Pledge include investor Carl Icahn and Steve Case the ex-AOL CEO. However, this is not the first time Mark Zuckerberg has decided to donate a part of his wealth for philanthropic causes. In September he announced that he would donate $100 million to improve Newark’s public school system.

Mark Zuckerberg has a chance to redeem his public image with this development especially after the unflattering portrayal of his character in the much touted Facebook film. He also wrote a letter on this initiative behind this donation but it is not published yet.
