Mark Zuckerberg Sep 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has donated a whopping $100 million to the Newark public schools. There are also plans to set up a foundation, whose motive would be to improve the quality of the US education system, and this donation would go into that foundation as well.

Mark made the generous gesture on the Oprah Winfrey Show, which is yet to be aired. According to reports the show would be telecast on Friday, and it can be seen that on the show, Mark would be accompanied by Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Even though $100 million is a huge sum, yet it is small change for the man who is estimated to be worth around $6.9 billion by Forbes. In fact according to Forbes, he is the 35th richest American, much higher above Apple’s Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs is reported to be worth just $6.1 billion and is on the 42nd position of the richest Americans list.

However many people are doubting the sincerity of Mark’s donation and esp. the timing of the benevolent gesture. Mark has always been in a spot regarding the privacy issue of Facebook and with the upcoming movie on Social Networking, which alleges that he stole the idea for Facebook from his friends. So donating some hard cash is sure a good idea to distract the attention from other issues.
