However, since its debut in October last year the Envy series has not really managed to overshadow other contenders from the stables of Dell and Acer. The 13 and 15 in models did suffer from some small glitches like average battery performance and inadequate cooling. It looks like HP is keen on establishing the Envy line as a flagship offering and that explains why it has launched the new Envy 14 with added oomph and features. Of course, premium quality laptops do come at a price and the HP Envy is not an exception. At its base configuration the Envy 14 costs about $999.

The configuration is very impressive in the new HP Envy 14 and except the very demanding users, others will be more than satisfied with it. It has a powerful Core i3-370M CPU that runs at 2.4 GHz. The 320 GB Hard drive is decent and the 4GB of RAM makes it almost future proof. One can go for the faster Core i5 CPUs. The model also has the mighty ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 GPU that enables one to play the latest games at mid resolution. This is not a gaming laptop but can run most of the games without hiccup. The slot loading DVD RW is somewhat inadequate as a Blu ray drive would have been ideal.

The HP Envy 14 also looks and feels great. The only drawback is the omission of the much touted USB 3 standard which was present in its predecessors.
