Early morning Illinois earthquake rattles sleepy residents

Chicago quake Chicago, Feb 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A small earthquake at 3:59 am on Wednesday morning in northern Illinois rattled the residents, and they woke up with a start. Earlier the magnitude of the earthquake was said to be 4.3, but later the USGS revised it to 3.8 magnitude. The earthquake had struck about 38 miles west-northwest of Chicago, at a depth of 3.1 miles. According to witnesses the tremors of the earthquake were felt up to 6 seconds.

The earthquake quake was said to be felt, as far as Wisconsin and Tennessee. The precise location of the earthquake was around 40 miles NW of Chicago. Illinois had been rocked by a very strong earthquake on 9th of November 1968, which had a magnitude of 5.4

The tremors were felt in the regions of Villa Park, Western Springs, Minooka, Batavia, Naperville, Elgin, Oak Lawn, Des Plaines, and the northwest side of Chicago, Logan Square and even Crown Point, IN.

There are presently no reports of anyone being injured. And the actual damage caused by the earthquake in terms of property, is also not known at the moment. Police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines confirmed the news of the earthquake, and he said that it occurred in DeKalb.
