Nov.8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It seems that the year 2009 will bring some good news for troubled US mobile manufacturer Motorola. The company which became almost synonymous with stylish handsets hit the bull’s eye with its super stylish MotoRazr series of phones, However, it failed to produce the worthy successor to the Razr series and the world was taken over by the iPhone and touch screen mania soon after. This year Motorola tied up with Verizon wireless, to produce a worthy alternative to iPhone and the model, based on Android OS has been named Droid. Verizon has been advertising Droid aggressively for some time now.
The media and public frenzy that the Droid has created, may prove beneficial for Motorola. The early reviews of the Droid are quite positive and the buyers have admitted that it outperforms the iPhone in the functionality and features department. Its multitasking capability and Verizon’s widespread 3G network is sure to attract a lot of cellphone users. To edge past the iPhone, Verizon has adopted a good marketing strategy. The Moto Droid is now available for $199.00. This is of course after the $100 rebate offered by Verizon. This makes it on par with the iPhone 3GS in the pricing department.
However, the industry experts believe that the success of Droid would depend on the effectiveness of the tariff and rentals offered by Verizon. If the existing iPhone users feel that Verizon Droid will offer them more bang for the buck, they will feel tempted to switch to it from AT&T. It will be a comeback weapon for Motorola too, that is for sure.
