Dec 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) If you have been to Facebook lately and wondering why all your friends are posting popular cartoon characters as their profile pics, it is a unique initiative that has been undertaken by the social-networking giant to raise awareness about child abuse. The campaign that was launched by Facebook earlier this week aims to raise awareness about the violence that children have to endure by making an appeal to the netizens to dump their conventional pictures for few days and post pictures of popular cartoon characters to to show their support to the campaign.
Since the initiative was launched by the popular social-networking site, it has attracted many eye-balls with thousands of Facebook users all across the globe pledging their support to the cause by replacing their profile pics in favor of popular cartoon characters. The campaign got all the more attention as it took the web by storm with the international media giving it enough mileage that in turn ensured that more and more Facebook users get to know the root cause behind the initiative. The campaign has been hailed by many who have emphasized that the initiative proves that increasingly important role that social media can play in creating awareness about such pertinent issues.
However, despite all the positive feedback, the campaign undertaken by Facebook also had to face wide skepticism with many experts raising questions about how far the initiative can actually impact the real world. A Facebook page which was quite critical of the campaign read that apart from changing the profile pictures, what else can the social-networking site do to help the issue.
