rim-54Aug 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) There was a time when the smart-phone market was ruled by Research In Motion the maker of BlackBerry but things chanced after the arrival of iPhone and the invasion of Android based handsets. Even though the BlackBerry models have not lost the loyal users, the android inroad has put the company in worry. RIM is also facing flak for the encrypted network it uses for email and messaging in some countries. The company is now hogging the focus also for its spanking new BlackBerry Torch 9800 handset. The model is being released in the USA by AT &T and it has got positive reviews so far. The industry buzz is that this is RIM’s weapon to counter iPhone 4. The phone has some impressive specs.

The growing popularity of the iPad has reportedly made RIM worried and it may launch a tablet web access device to battle iPad. The device may be launched in this year and it has been given the name BlackPad. However, RIM is yet to make an official declaration about this much touted device. The BlackPad will be similar to iPad and it will have cameras and the capability of linking to a BlackBerry phone.

However the success of the device cannot be predicted. The RIM App store has just a few thousand apps compared to the Apple Store. It also needs to be remembered that by the time it is launched Apple may release an updated version of the iPad which will make RIM’s task tougher. The other hardware vendors are also launching their own versions of internet tablets soon.
