sau_blackberryAug 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Research In Motion co-chief executive and founder Mike Lazaridis unveiled the much anticipated model of BlackBerry, the Torch 9800 on Tuesday at New York amidst media frenzy. While the phone has generated a storm in the telecom industry the event failed to stir the BlackBerry users in the Saudi Arabia as Saudi Arabia is going to ban the services of BlackBerry within a few days. It was earlier warned RIM that the encrypted code used by the BlackBerry was against the security norm practiced by the nation. There are at least 500000 BlackBerry users in the Saudi Arabia and their future is bleak.

The Saudi Arabia has made it clear that unless RIM adheres to the country’s regulations the service will continue to be blocked. The Communications and Information Technology Commission which is the telecom regulator of the kingdom has said that it had earlier allotted a three month time span to the service providers to adhere the requirements of the country. Etisalat which is the top service provider in the kingdom is yet to withdraw Blackberry though the representatives are recommending the buyers not to get BlackBerry.

UAE which is the neighbor of the Saudi Arabia has banned the use of BlackBerry. The encrypted data of RIM is passed through its centers based in Canada. The encrypted data used by RIM has raised security concerns in other countries including India. The countries allege that the terrorist groups can take advantage of the RIM network to plot attacks. Kuwait is not as finicky as its Gulf neighbors as far as Rim services are concerned.
