California, Oct 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Apple is determined to take a share of Microsoft’s market value for computer operating systems. The company has over the years come up with several innovative products just for that cause.

The company did just that again on Wednesday when Apple’s CEO and founder, Steve Jobs unveiled the thinnest and lightest Mac laptop ever built.

This time around, the company is seeking to replicate the successes the company has enjoyed in the Smartphone market to the operating system.

What is more, the new Mac laptops do not use conventional computer hard disks. They use the kind of flash storage that iPad uses. This makes the machine run faster and can start almost instantly from standby mode. The flash storage drives store data twice faster than the conventional hard disks. Its processing speed however is not as fast as the previous Mac laptops.

The cost of the new Mac machines starts from $999 for the 11.6-inch model which weighs as little as 2.3 pounds (1 kg) and measures 0.11 inches at its thinnest to 0.68 inches at the rear.

All the Mac machines are equipped with FaceTime which will allow the machine users to make live video calls with iPhone and iPod Touch.
