The gizmo freaks who have been gorging on every bit of information that is leaked about the to-be released iphone by Apple have lots to cheer about as Apple has recently applied for a patent that could take the iPhone technology to a whole new level.
Though there wont be any new additions to the already leaked features of the new iPhone, the application for which Apple has applied a patent for might be implemented to the iPhone in the next few years.
The Touch Sensor Integrated Solar Panels, which is what the patent application is, will allow the iPhone to harness the energy of the sun. The Apple representatives have revealed that they plan to cover the entire phone with a thin film that has solar cells.
On exposure to the sun, the phone will turn into an energy efficient solar device. The idea which seems far fetched at the moment, considering the number of application the iPhone, has could well be turned into reality as the demand for better battery life and energy efficiency is increasing everyday.
There is though guarantees by the authorities actually making the product of use but the research is underway.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs who is due to deliver a keynote speech and probably launch the new iPhone on June 7, is also expected to discuss the new OS for the iPhone and iPad that the company has been working on. Apple is also rumored to be splitting with AT&T that provides exclusive mobile service to iPhones.
According to surveys, the Blackberry Smart phones continue to rule the roost in the segment that Apple is trying to settle in.
