lNew York, May 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Apple has decided to close down its streaming music service ‘Lala’ by the 31st of May 2010. It is no longer accepting new users on the Lala service, and has decided to allow access for existing users to the streaming service only till the end of May.

Lala’s homepage at www.lala.com explicitly mentions that the service is closing down. And it also confirms the date of closure as May 31st 2010, and that it is no longer accepting any new users. Apple had bought Lala in December 2009, and hence it becomes all the more surprising on why did it decide to close down the shutters on the Lala service.

It is not known clearly on what would have been the reasons for such a drastic decision by Apple, however some market analysts believe that it could be that Apple is looking forward to integrating Lala’s technology in its own iTunes store software.

It may be recalled that Lala’s users could enjoy free access to over 8 million songs for one time, and 10 cents for unlimited access for each song. It is likely that all existing users who paid for the songs on the cloud based Lala service would be compensated by iTunes credits.
