Bristol, Aug 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a bizarre development a company based in Bristol has modified a Beetle convertible car to use human waste as its fuel! The car is being called the bio bug. The concept for some people may simply appear disgusting though the fuel conservationists may give it a thumb up. The car gets powered by methane gas generated by the sewage treatment process. The bio bug can run for a year from the waste acquired from 70 households. It can cover 10000 miles on that as per the estimate.
The car does not look any different from standard VW Beetles. The company named GENeco is of the opinion that methane made from human waste is a new and innovative way to run vehicles. The majority of the cars still use fossil fuel which is depleting at an alarming rate and the need for an alternative energy is becoming more evident with time. The CNG and LPG based cars are becoming popular in any countries for their eco friendly mechanism. In UK CNG usage is also increasing in commercial vehicles and cars. GENeco has been making biogas from sewage in its plant and the company tried experimenting with the betel convertible. It is happy with the result.
The car runs on dual fuel and when the compressed methane gets exhausted the engine derives the power from conventional fuel. The company has also said almost 1500 cars run on bio methane derived from sewage plants in Sweden. However, the idea is yet to be used widely in the UK and USA. The company is hopeful that the example will be taken seriously by alternative energy proponents.
