$139 Kindle: A Cost Effective Alternative To iPad

202166-kindle2_180July 30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Amazon tasted success with its first generation kindle ebook reader device and it was selling quite well until Apple unveiled its uber cool iPad. The skyrocketing sales figure of the device must have given Amazon a run for its money and that explains why it has come out with the second version of its eBook reader. The new version of Kindle not only offers more features it is also lighter on the wallet. The base model is now available only for $139. With the improved device and a low price tag Amazon wants to fight the iPad invasion into a territory which was dominated by Kindle until a few months back.

The device does have an improved screen with better contrast but it is still not color. However, Amazon scores bog over Apple since the new kindle does not suffer from overheating problem like the iPad. The iPad users are angry as they cannot use the device in direct sunlight at a stretch as it shuts down. This is not the case with the new Kindle. The iPad’s cheapest model sells for a hefty $499 way above the cheapest Kindle.

Kindle may not have the features of iPad but it does what it claims all right. It is perfect for reading ebooks and that is easily done with it without any fuss. The new kindle is lighter than the predecessor and faster too. The extended memory means it can contain more books in it. The new device also boasts of far improved battery life a boon for the users who need to travel a lot.
