zenDel Mar, California, Aug 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Champion Thoroughbred racehorse added a new feather to her cap on Saturday after she was successful in retaining her unbeaten record by registering victory in her 18th race. The six-year-old mare emerged victorious at the Clement L Hirsch Stakes (1700m) on Saturday which was held at Del Mar, California. Zenyetta reserved triumph in a nail-biting manner after a close duel with Rinterval in what turned out to be the second closest finish of her career.

Apart from the fact that with Saturday’s victory the champion racehorse was able to remain unbeaten for the 18th time, the win was all the more special as it was the third successive triumph for Zenyatta in the Hirsch. After the 1 1/16-mile race commenced, the six-year-old mare seemed completely in her elements from the starting point and by the time she reached the half-mile pole, jockey Mike Smith was well aware of the fact that she was going to give her best shot to maintain her perfect record. Following Zenyatta’s win, the jockey revealed to the media that the champion racehorse ran really big and was pretty much under control throughout the race. However, Mike Smith also noted that the manner in which Zenyatta was able to register victory was indeed impressive.

Saturday’s win at the Clement L Hirsch Stakes was Zenyatta’s fourth Grade One victory of the year which comes after her successive wins at the Vanity Handicap, the Apple Blossom at the Arkansas Oaklawn Park as well as the Santa Margarita Handicap. The six-year-old mare is just one race behind Peppers Pride, who remained undefeated in her 19th and final race.
