Zardari to decide the future of cricketing ties with India
December 18th, 2008 - 7:10 pm ICT by ANI Karachi, Dec.18 (ANI): President Asif Ali Zardari will decide on the future of cricketing ties with India.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ejaz Butt met Zardari to brief him about issues dealing with Indias tour and future line of action if the tour gets cancelled.
“Yes, the Chairman called on the President to discuss cricket matters,” a PCB official said without divulging much details.
Discussions were held with the President about the options available before Pakistan if India decides to snap their tour.
“The PCB Chairman took the advice of the President on the possibility of Pakistan also suspending cricket ties with India which could lead to Pakistani players not being allowed to play in the Twenty20 tournaments in India,” the News quoted a source as saying.
Meanwhile, India today called off cricket teams tour to Pakistan scheduled to be held in January-February 2009 in wake of the recent developments in the Mumbai terror attacks.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) spokesman Rajeev Shukla said: The final decision has been taken. We have got the letter from the Sports Ministry and the Ministry of External Affairs not to proceed with the tour.
Shukla said that the government has declined permission to go ahead with the tour taking into account the recent developments in Mumbai as well as the overall circumstances prevailing at present. (ANI)
