Zardari felicitates PCB and players over ‘no ICC proof of spot-fixing’
October 14th, 2010 - 2:23 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Oct 14 (ANI): While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is being criticized from all quarters, President Asif Ali Zardari has chosen to felicitate its chairman Ijaz Butt and players on the findings of the International Cricket Council (ICC) that there was no “compelling” proof of spot-fixing against the team’s players.
Congratulating Butt and the players, Zardari said that he was pleased that no evidence had been found to substantiate the match-fixing allegations against any of the Pakistani cricketers, the Daily Times reported.
“It shows the need for fair and independent investigations on all the claims made against the cricket team,” said the president, who is also the patron-in-chief of the PCB.
The felicitation followed the ICC’s admission that it had no ‘compelling evidence’ of match-fixing in the third one-dayer against England.
Earlier in September, it had been alleged that the third ODI match, which Pakistan won by 23 runs, had been fixed. (ANI)
